From a London cafe to a property portfolio

Australian Property Investor: Jack Freestone: From a London Cafe to One of Australia's Leading Property Investors

The Australian Property Investor podcast gave Jack an episode to tell the whole story, starting with leaving home at 17 after family difficulties and ending with a substantial portfolio and his own agency.

Along the way he explains how time travelling through South-East Asia led him into a cafe business, and how running that fed directly into the way he now looks at property as an asset rather than a lifestyle purchase.

The takeaway

Nobody handed me a deposit. Everything I know about buying well came from having to be careful with the little I had, and that is still how I look at every purchase we make for a client.

The cafe taught me more about property than any course did. Once you have run a business on thin margins you stop guessing at numbers and start checking them.
